Nestled at the foot of the iconic Mount Fuji, Naka no Chaya is not just a café; it's a beautiful respite for both hikers and travelers yearning for a taste of authentic Japanese hospitality. Located in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi, this quaint tea house combines the rich heritage of the area with the simplicity of local cuisine.

As you step into Naka no Chaya, you're greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere, filled with the delightful aroma of steaming noodles and freshly brewed tea. Customers rave about the traditional Yoshida Udon, a dish that embodies the essence of Fujiyoshida's culinary scene. The udon is prepared to order, ensuring every bowl is fresh and satisfying; a fact that many, including returning customers, highly appreciate. ヒロシです shared, “The cold meat udon was fantastic — it took a while since they cook the noodles fresh, but the taste was absolutely worth the wait.”

In addition to the delicious udon, visitors have been treated to complimentary seasonal delights like cucumbers with miso and even sweet candy, making every visit feel special. Luke Clarke noted, “The owner was nice, and I got some free candy,” highlighting the café’s commitment to service and creating memorable experiences.

Naka no Chaya is more than a meal stop—it's a cultural gem where you can soak in the natural beauty surrounding Mount Fuji. Customers enjoy the scenic views while savoring their meals, with icing on the cake being the historical significance of the tea house, which has roots tracing back to the Edo period. As shared by ブラタマキ, “This tea house, rich in history, is conveniently situated between the beautiful Hakone Shrine and the base of Mount Fuji,” allowing guests to reflect on their journey amidst stunning landscapes.

The café serves as a vital rest point for adventurers on the Yoshida route, offering little touches like free water, snacks, and even a cozy place to relax after a long climb. Lindsey Motteram called it a “wonderful place to stop in while enjoying the beautiful Fuji scenery,” affirming the café's status as a must-visit for anyone tackling the mountain.

What truly sets Naka no Chaya apart is its dedication to the hiking community, equipped with amenities such as showers and free rental services for hiking gear. This makes it a perfect pit stop for those aiming for the summit. On your next trip to the region, make sure to embrace the delightful offerings of Naka no Chaya—where each visit tells a story and every bite is a celebration of local culture.

The udon was good and we got some complimentary cucumbers with miso. If you want to go here specifically for Yoshida Udon, be careful as it’s only served on weekends (from April-Oktober). It’s a rest stop on the Yoshida route from the shrine to the top of Mt. Fuji and has been recently renovated. You can also buy some snacks and souvenirs here.

The teahouse is closed until summer. This is the entrance from one of the paths up to Mount Fuji.
